Jubilee windows!

After seeing a recent tweet that said  “d’you think the queen has double glazing”

Double Glazing for the Queen

It got me thinking about  how many windows are in the Royal Palaces, how much glass there is to clean, how old the glass is and whether any of them are double or just single  glazed windows.

Staggeringly, Buckingham Palace has 760 windows!  All windows are cleaned every six weeks to keep them clean, helping to make the most of the light.

Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of Britain’s sovereigns since 1837 and today is the administrative headquarters of the Monarchy.  Judging by the age of the property that could mean some of the glass could be very old and I suspect only single glazed.

Other residencies of the Queen’s include Windsor Castle, Balmoral Castle, Kensington Palace and Sandringham House.

Although I am not able to find the number of windows for these properties, when I asked how many windows in a castle, the answer plucked from the ether said “There is no answer, castles are different  sizes all over the world so they will all have a different amount of windows”.

It then started us thinking about how long it would take to replace a window in a Palace  (if they were all standard sizes), what specialist knowledge you would need for taking windows out, repairing any wear-and-tare or problems with the brick and stone work.

If an Anglian installation team was set the job of replacing windows at Buckingham Palace and the windows were all a standard sized, it would take  the team approximately 190 days.  However, we are sure it would take a little longer as they would have to go up and down the stairs and along the corridors.

Timber Sash Window

Anglian can replace your  windows with both wood or uPVC  in casement or sash windows styles, wood is especially popular for listed or older properties enabling your home to still maintain its character.

Our wooden sash windows are made from specially selected redwood, manufactured and designed with modern technology to last a lifetime.  The windows are fitted with sealed double-glazing units and easy-glide weather stripping that will give a smooth sliding action and prevent rattles and drafts.

All our windows are individually made and bespoke for your home, Palace or Castle.

With a huge variety of styles and materials we are sure there would be one there to meet with her Majesties approval.
