Support that Pony!

Supporting worthy causes gives us all great pleasure at Anglian Home Improvements, and one of those charities is The Shelley Centre for Therapeutic Riding.

The centre based in Suffolk, has been offering life-changing activities to people with disabilities for over 20 years. With the help of instructors and volunteers it gives the special riders from all age groups, the chance to ride horses and ponies that they may not normally have the opportunity to do so.

A network of groups through the Riding for the Disabled Association can be found all over the country offering other great experiences to riders including  vaulting, show-jumping and carriage driving, with an estimated 28,000 people a year using the associations.

Diane Godfrey, known to riders and ponies as Auntie Di, is the Sponsor and Pony Representative and explained that “the aim of the Shelley Centre is to help its special riders to achieve their goals and to have fun”.

We quite agree how much fun it is to be able to join in with the riding as it is very rewarding for all.

Two ponies that we will be keeping in contact with are Shannon and Fleur.  After reading the ponies’ stories before each of them reached the centre, with pony club, gymkhanas, cross country and even some dressage experience.  We are sure they will give young riders the confidence to learn to ride in a safe environment, with love and affection from both the helpers and the ponies.

With a Silver medal recently being won by Lee Pearson from Team GB in the Dressage event at the Paralympics 2012, it gives great encouragement to all special riders that anything is possible.
